How many hours do I need to pass my test and become an efficient driver?
Every learner is an individual and hours will vary from person to person, however studies from the DVSA recommends that you have at least 45 hours of professional training by a Driving Instructor and about 20 hours of private training by family or friends.
NOTE: If you are going to drive with family or friends, the car must be insured for you to drive.
Do I need to have passed my theory test before starting to learn to drive?
No, you do not need to have passed your theory test before you start learning to drive. However, it is advantageous to have the theoretical knowledge beforehand.
What happens if I have to cancel a lesson?
A lesson can be cancelled free of charge provided 24 hours’ notice has been given. If less than 24 hours’ notice has been given, then you will be charged for the duration of that lesson.
How long is the practical driving test and what does is involved?
The practical driving test is 40 minutes long. You will be taken on a variety of roads and you will get the following:
Sat Nav or directions
One ‘tell me’ and one ‘show me’ question
One of the following manoeuvres (one of four bay parks, a parallel park or a right hand reverse)
Controlled stop (Not guaranteed)
NOTE: Please bear in mind that the test can overrun due to traffic

Can I take my own car to the driving test?
Yes, you can take you own car to the driving test. You must have:
Your provisional driving licence
“L Plates” securely fastened to the front and back of the car.
You must be accompanied before the test by a driver who is over 21 and have had their driving licence for 3 years of more.
The car must have insurance for you to drive (You may be asked for this).
